99 accord stall problem
Engine started to stall and turn off at stops intermittently. I had problems with it, and then drove it several hundred miles on vacation with no problems. Then they started back up when I got back home.
I decided i would change spark plugs and wires first, that didnt help.
Next I decided to check distributer cap and rotor under it, they were all fine(sanded them a bit anyway).
Then, I took the throttle body off and cleaned it with seafoam throttle body cleaner. Put it back together, now everytime I give it gas the engine shuts off. It was idling very rough after this as well.
I hooked the computer up and it was throwing a Idle Air Control Valve error. When I unplugged the IACV it idled perfect. So i took the IACV off and cleaned it and still didn't solve anything. Went and ordered one down at the parts store, 180$, and installed it this morning. It still didnt fix my problem. The idle is better, but everytime I give it gas it cuts off or when I press the gas and hold it in the same spot it will rev and rpm's will jump and then they will fall down to less than 1000 and jump back up and continue this until it eventually cuts off at lower rpm's.
I'm really in a bind here because it is the car I drive everyday to work. Any ideas or suggestiosn are GREATLY appreciated!

Have you adjusted your TPS? Its the little black sensor on the firewall side of the throttle body (you didn't mention any specifics of your vehicle so I am just throwing a guess out there). It should read .5v at closed and .45 at WOT, if the TPS is out of adjustment it is basically running the motor blind because it cannot tell where the throttle is in conjunction to the injectors, ECU, etc.

I took out the throttle body, peeked inside manifold to find it DIRTY. I bought carb cleaner and cleaned the throttle body and manifold till it looked like it was new, then I put everything back on and my car is now running better than when I bought it.
I am having a similar problem in my 04 civic hybrid. The car starts just fine in the morning and will idle without issue; but once its warm if I turn it off let it cool for 5 minutes and try to start it again it stalls. If I give it gas that stops it from stalling and it will find its idle. Originally I had no codes with this issue then I took off the throttle body and cleaned it and the IACV, put it back together and now have codes for multiple misfires, IACV, O2 sensor, and intake leak. Once car is at idle I can unplug IACV and notice a difference - the idle goes up to about a grand. Plug it back in and it drops to just over 500. Just changed plugs as well.
