Default 88 Sedan Issues with lights

Okay, So I picked up an automatic 88 LX sedan, and it has proven to be well worth the $900 I paid for it, it has less then 100k.
But the only issue I have really come across is that under the dash it looks like someone went a little crazy and cut some wires and did some work.

My issue is that when the car is normally running, while I'm driving everything is fine, but when I depress the brake pedal the gauge cluster lights up, the clock dims, next to the shifter lights up. All of that aside its not much of a problem for me, but when I turn my headlights on the brake lights run constant, and when I depress the brake pedal there is not much of a difference making it hard for anyone following to really notice when I am hitting the brakes.

Can anyone help me find out what could be the problem, or give me an idea what to start looking for?

Thanks.

So I have checked the fuse, followed the wiring and everything looks good all the way through, from the tail lights to the fuse panel. The connectors are fine and the pins look good. The wiring mess under the dashboard was an alarm system the previous owner installed and then took out before selling it to me. Nothing with the alarm touched anything on the brake lights.
Please help.

What happens when you turn your headlights on ??? does the gauge cluster light , clock dim, and shifter light up ??

I would check the wiring at the brake switch, and at the headlight switch and follow those wires.

Every time something weird happens with wiring, I immediately think "Bad Gground somewhere..."

Where can I find the brake light switch?
