I have a 1992 Dx hatch, the release for the hatch inside doesn't work, you can hear the wire move but nothing is opened. Similar story with the key on the outside of the hatch, you turn it and hear the mechanism move but not open. I was told by fellow Eg owner to kick the hatch from the inside, I don't really want to do that unless it's my last resort. Is there anything less barbaric?

 

ive never had to remove the rear plastics from a EG hatch, is there any way to take to cover off the tailgate from the inside with it closed? if you don't get any help I will check my 93 when I get to the shop in a few hours,

all I can see kicking it do is damage/destroy the car.

worst case you can probably snake something in and grab the release. just make sure to fix the problem when you get it open! lol

 

I'm going to try and see if theres any plastics I can remove to gain access. I will get back to you shortly.

 

I got the metal lower portion to unlock but the glass is still stuck, anyway to shim that? it locks in a strange angle.

 

These diagrams should help you deal with most rear hatch/tailgate/spoiler problems.

 

the tailgate latch is on a lever on it, you still need to catch the window latch from inside, be careful not to break the window if you have the gate unlatched
