2007 Civic EX A/C issues
We have a 2007 sedan (EX, if that's important).
We have an issue where the A/C will initially start to blow cold air but very quickly does nothing but blow air at whatever the environment temperature is.
It seems like the system is coming on because it starts initially and also because even when it's not blowing cold air, there is what is best described as a "kick" when the A/C button is pressed with a corresponding, but slight initial change in RPM.
I would obviously appreciate any guidance here as our budget is super tight and we'd like to get this taken care of while knowing as much as possible when dealing with shops.
I took it into one shop and that the compressor was not running but had power to it. He also said that they then tried to power up the compressor coil and that it would not power up.
They are quoting me around $600 for the job of replacing just the coil, of which greater than 75% is labor.
Does this sound right?
Should I be just be having the compressor replaced since the car has 120k miles on it? The lowest quote I can get on that kind of job is around $1100 around here.
Could this simply be something as simple as the car being low on refrigerant?
THANK YOU to all in advance for any insight/assistance here. It is greatly appreciated.
