so i need help w/ instructions on torqueing down my heada
info:
d16y8 99ex coupe

from my udnerstanding,

1. put head on
2. put all bolts in
3. hand tight bolts working from middle out, 1>2>10 i no the sequence of that
4. Torque all head bolts from middle out (sequence) 1/4th turn each
5. Keep torqueing all to 15-17 inch on

but then i see this picture

wat do the steps 1-4 mean? lil lost on that

 

torque to those values in sequence. dont just go straight to 49 ft-lb.

 

Do the sequence and then go back to 1-2 and make sure its at 49lbs

 

Isn't it pretty self-explanatory??

1st step... torque in sequence shown in picture to 14 lb ft...
2nd step... torque in sequence shown in picture to 36 lb ft...
3rd step... torque in sequence shown in picture to 49 lb ft...
4th step... CHECK in sequence to make sure all are at 49 lb ft...
