Default Transmission Compatibility

Hello

Tried looking into placing this post elsewhere but at the end i thought this was the best place.

Honda - Acura same manufacturer Honda = Economy and Acura = High end

What automatic transmissions are interchangable between what cars taking into consideration they are all 3.5 V-Tec

Issue at hand is a 2000 Oddysey in need for a tranny at this moment i cant afford rebuilding for 2K.

So what other Hondas or Acuras share the same transmission according to what I have been able to find on the web my tranny is a B7TA im sure
other Hondas or Acuras use it.

Localy there are no Oddyseys in the junkyards but there are other hondas and acuras.

Thanks

IIRC V6 accords up to 2002 use it as well. That said Honda often uses different gear ratios in what is otherwise the same trans in different applications, sometimes even between different trim levels of the same vehicle. Using a transmission with different ratios wont work right without the correct TCU/TCM, if it's separate you can normally use the TCM that matches the trans and it'll work. If it's got an integrated PCM you're probably out of luck (unless the engine is identical, and the PCM uses the same type of connectors)

All this said, none of those V6 transmissions were any good to start with, to the point that I'd never trust a junkyard/used unit.

Thank you

I was only looking into a low milage junkyard tranny to streach the use of my van
for some additional months, i had not even thought of the gear ratios being different
but that said if the diameter of the wheels is the same it would not affect it so much.

Well i got a quote for 1600 i think im going to drive the van as is till the slipp is more evident then have it repaired instead of using a junkyard tranny.

Thanks for the info :-)

Even if the wheel and tire diameter is identical you'll have problems. Weird shifting, but the bigger issue is it will throw a CEL for P0715 so if you have emissions testing in your state it will never pass.

If you fix it sooner than later it may be a bit cheaper. Usually with the 5 speed automatics the 3rd gear clutch pack completely destroys itself to the point that sometimes the only part of it you can salvage is the drum. (I believe Gearspeed and possibly Synchrotech as well now sell complete clutch packs for those trans, when I built one I had to buy parts individually from Honda and it's not cheap, the aftermarket rebuild kit only includes the frictions and steels, and O-rings for the clutch packs) Yours is an older 4 speed and if I remember correctly they had more of an issue with second gear.

It it sometimes surprising to see just how bad a trans looks inside even when it's in the early stages of failure.

Good luck
