Here's the list of symptoms, all appear seemingly at random. 1999 honda accord v6. I'm thinking Ignition Switch and not Main Relay. Thoughts? Troubleshooting advice? I'm stuck at home with limited supplies...no multimeter....

1. Occaisionally car will not start
2. 99% of time engine will try to start, sometimes will, but immediately stall out
2. On these occaisions the problem is remedied by just waiting a few minutes and trying again
3. On these occaisions when it starts but immediately stalls it seems to start REALLY fast, like before I turn the key all the way over. Seems odd.
4. On two occaisions my car has stalled while driving. Started back up and went home.
5. VERY recently engine would not even attempt to turn over. Like a dead battery but all lights/AC/radio came on.
- someone on a forum suggested locking/unlocking doors to reset security, did this and it started fine
6. TODAY -- same as #5 but nothing seems to work.
7. The green key thing blinks (red herring?)
8. I hear the faint whine of what I guess is the fuel being drawn to engine
9. I hear one click (not rapid clicks like when battery is dying)
10. Car has been very reliable besides this, recently took it cross country
-- problem was happening before trip but had stopped for a while
-- trip was a few months ago and this JUST started happening again

 

I'll add: Last time I drove my car was Saturday late afternoon. So it sat in my garage for maybe 36 hours before I tried to start it again.

I did unhook the battery for an hour and that didn't help.

Eveytime I've had a problem it's always started within a few minutes, except today.

 

Update:

I no longer hear the fuel pressure sound when I turn the key
I no longer see the green key blinking
I checked the main relay, it looked to be in good shape
All electrical stuff seems to be working (headlights, dashlights, AC, etc)

I'll pick up a new ignition switch tomorrow and do the replacement to see if that helps.

 

"green key thing" is Honda immobilizer system which will prevent your car from starting...i don't know a lot about it, myself...tbh

 

I read online that you can lock/unlock your car with the FOB and it will reset that and your car will start. Last time my car wouldn't start I did that and it started right up.

This time, however, that trick isn't working. The green key was flashing yesterday but no longer is today.

I'll be getting a new ignition switch today and installing it tonight by the way. Not sure if that's the problem or not...
