1999 Accord Overheating After New Radiator Fan Motor
Hey everybody,
I'm new to this site and wanted to see if anyone had any ideas about my car's overheating issue. I have a 99' Honda Accord LX, 2.3L L4 SOHC 16V. Yesterday, when I parked it sputtered and died, but would restart, then sputter and die again. It was clear that the coolant had blown all over the engine block, so I bought a new cap, put coolant in, and started the car. It didn't seem to be overheating, so I started to drive home. About half way there, the temp gague went from half way straight up to red. Thankfully, I was driving by an autozone and got it into the parking lot. The radiator fan didn't seem to be working. I tested the fuzes, tested the relay, and cross checked the fan connections via the AC fan unit. It was clear that the radiator fan motor was dead. I got a motor, changed it, and the fan worked. Half way home, the temp gague jumped back up to red. I had to stop and wait to make a left turn onto my street, at which point steam came out of my engine. I shut the engine off and tested the fan and the new motor was dead. At this point, I don't think it's just the fan if the engine is overheating after 2 miles. The only ideas I have are:
1. Water pump (which was changed only 14k miles ago)
2. Thermostat
Any ideas?
Thanks.

Did you check for leaks ? Are you certain that the cap was the culprit ? How did you test the fan, did you apply direct battery voltage to it ? Feel the lower hose when it starts to overheat. If it's cold then that is the problem.
