Default 06 Honda Civic gets stuck in gear (automatic)

What should I trouble shoot to find out why my 06 Honda Civic will not always shift into park. Sometimes, I have to leave it in neutral and pull the E-brake and leave the key in. There is a lever next to the automatic gear shift, but it does not help any. Please advise.

Is there enough transmission fluid?

Also you may want to look into replacing the shift cable.

Don't you need to press on the brakes to put it in to PARK? I remember I couldn't get it OUT of PARK and I had to replace the fuse. If your brake lights or horn doesn't work, check the fuse.
