Default Vtec not working?

I bought a cw 98 R about 2 months ago and it's awsome. But lately when i'm driving and i hit 5800 rpm i can hear the vtec trying to come on but it won't kick in. But then sometimes it will come on and stay on for like 1000rpm and cut back out. I checked the green Vtec wire behind the distributor cap and it's on there. So i don't know a little help would be much appreciated thanx.

Do a an oil change.... how many miles on it??? get a valve adjustment.... and there is a way to check to see if the VTEC is working... not sure about the newer tegs, but on my 94 GSR... all you have to do is be in first gear and drive the car and stay in VTEC (around 6K RPM+) for about 7-10 seconds (not sure)... and if your check engine light comes on--blinks or just stays on (I forgot)... then your VTEC isn't working or your solenoid is messed up....

What do you mean you can hear it "try" to come on. Either you hear it, or you don't.

Make sure your engine is up to operating temperature also

sometimes when it hits 5800 the vtec sound comes on for like a half second then cuts out and does not come back on all the way to redline. Still fast though. Then other times it does not come on at all.

The VTEC system use some of the engine oil to push little pins in place, engage the central rocker arms and utilise the bigger lob on the camshafts, if you do not have enough oil, the system won't engage properly (sorry I tough I might explain so he understand TO CHECK THE OIL FIRST).

If the oil level is good, remember the the VTEC system wont engage if the engine temp. is not optimal and if the throttle valve is not opened past a certain angle

Hey man, its your oil levels being low. VTEC is operated by oil pressure. Next time you think your oil level is low, go whip a hard *** turn in VTEC and if you hear it cut off, you're low on oil. VTEC operates depending on your -
Oil pressure
Engine speed
Coolan and oil Temp
Vehicle speed

It cuts on and off because the solenoid loses pressure. If you whip the turn and you cut outta VTEC, its because oil is stuck to one side of the oil pan and the solenoid lost oil pressure. Change the oil so you can play in VTEC land again and your engine lives longer.

Oil or VTEC Solenoid?
The Solenoid is fine, he just needs more oil to engage VTEC cause there's not enough oil to activate the Solenoid. Might as well change it, new oil and old - bad oil.
