Default A newbie 99 si build

Hey guys, I've been a HT stalker since 2008, and after reading all these awesome build threads; I wanted to share my 5 years and counting EBP si "project".I'm just an average poor college kid who loves cars. Sorry, if my English is bad, English is my 2nd language.

I always thought Hondas were so cool, since everybody's uncle had one, and i always wanted a 99 si ever since i was in elementry school.I bought my 99 si when I was a freshman in high school (i thought i was so cool, because i was the only 9th grader to have a job, lol). That was about 5 years ago. I was a newbie getting his first car, so I didn't know if a car was good to buy or not. As much as I like to deny it, that car was a bust. It was salvaged titled, Ex interior, the engine blew up after a couple months. I then decided to order a jdm gsr from hmotors and with the help of a couple friends, was able to swap that into my Si.

Fast forward 2 years and i see this clean titled 00 EBP si for 2000. I was able to ****** it up for 1600. It had a minor fender bender and low compression. My plan was to swap my gsr into the new si, and part out my old Si. I was able to part out the old si and the b16, and after parting out everything i broke even. SO i basically swapped my si for a clean titled si with stock everything, and did i mentioned i would be the second owner!

Well since my friends were busy and such, i decided to swap over my jdm gsr myself. Everything went fairly well at first, but then when i was doing the swap, i decided to get a blox intake manifold. The manifold had a dual nipple at one end. The rookie that i am, decided to hook up one of the coolant line into one nipple, and the breather box line into the other. Long story short, coolant got into my block. I then hooked it up the right way, and changed oil and dropped oil pan to clean out the milky oil, but i think the damage was already done. The car was smoking a lot. So my si went on the shelf for awhile and i didn't touch it.

Fast forward to this year, i wanted to finally get my Si back on the road. So i decided to rebuild the motor and hopefully this time, i can finally enjoy my civic. I dropped the motor and took it apart. I sent it to the machine shop to get cleaned, resurfaced, and honed. It's still at the shop so i can't really do any work at the moment. I'm planning to do a mild build, i would be happy if i hit 180 whp. I'm planning to put in p73 pistons, blox type b cams, blox dual valvesprings,BC steel retainers, and then replace all the gaskets and such. This time i will have the help of my girlfriends uncle who is a certified tech, and he builds hondas in his sleep, so hopefully this time, everything will go according to plan. lol

People always made fun of how i wasted so much money on my car and it still doesn't run, and how i could have bought a way better car with the amount of money i used, but i always tell them that the amount of knowledge that I've gained about these cars and cars in general is invaluable. Cheers.

The first Si

The new Si, the first day i took her home. And then some some pics after i swapped most of my body panels over.

The Shell that i parted out.

Then i decided to dropp it and throw some blox LCAs on. It took me a whole day of cutting the bolts off, i learned how to replace struts that day, and also to use anti seize. lol

How she sat for 1.5 years

And finally took everything apart bagged and tagged awaiting for the rebuild.

Sorry for not updating guys, the build's going slow, I should be getting the block and head back from the machine shop this week hopefully. Some stuff came in.

blox dual valve springs, npr std piston rings, oem head gasket, GE cam gears, nippon p73 pistons. Also, my cams came in, I lucked out and got the Competition series Blox type b's for the same price as the Tuner series blox stage 2's.I wanted to get the type b's in the first place because i've heard great things about them, the stage 2's i haven't heard much, but the Type B's were out of my budget so i decided to buy the stage 2's. In the end, the seller did not have the stage 2's instock, so he was willing to give me the Type B's for the same price as the stage 2's.

Also i was able to pick up some 96-98 minty tailights for 15 bucks. I wanted to see how it looked like on EBP. lol, not so good.

The shell was rust free, but i was being a good pal and sold the whole rolling shell to my buddy for 400. (kind of regretted doing that, all it really needed was a swap.)

Thanks bro, you've said it. I like to live by the motto, "Built not bought" lol. Most of my "friends" drive newer Honda (rsx,06+si,etc...) and think they are the shizznits, just because they can swap out their oem Honda badges for Red ones, and put on dohc vtec decals on the side. lol Also, I've been keeping up with your del sol build too. Nice work.
