stock engine or not????
I bought a 1997 Honda Accord with a V6 emblem on the trunk lid last year in TX. Under the hood is a 24-valve V6 engine. I moved back to CA so I could fix up my Accord and when I had the performance shop worked on my car, the tech told me that my engine was from a Legend. I asked the tech if they did a "swap-engine" on my car but the tech said that it's the stock engine. I went to a honda dealership to get a clarification on this and they ran my VIN# and the result came back as a 1997 Honda Accord LX I4. So now I'm a bit confused if exactly what kind of a car I have or have you guys ever heard of such Accord with a Legend engine in it????. I need some feedback from you guys and anything is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
I think the tech meant so say, "This is the same engine that is in the older Legends." So you have an Accord J27 V6 that is also found in the older Legends. As far as being registered as an I4, go to the Honda website yourself. They have a section where you can enter your VIN and it gives you a history of your car and what maintenance is suggested.
The preious owner tired of being slow and got a v6 from a legend(maybe older legend) and then sell it to you for higher price(?)...
Dude, how could you miss that?

yes the 5th gen v6 had the same motor from the old legend, but the engine code is actually C27A, the same series as the nsx motor(c32).
The 5th gen I4 is actually quicker in the quarter mile than the V6. The I4 was lighter and produced almost as much power but in the higher rev range. The V6 had more low end torque for regular driving around town. I don't believe they were interchangeable because the V6 engine bay was a few inches longer to accomodate the V6 engine and they were mounted different. I'm not positive on this though, so feel free to add to/correct me.

I wonder if how many cars like this Honda produced in that year. One more thing, I'm a bit confused now when buying engine parts, should I tell them that it's for a C27A legend engine or what not???? And, will I be able to get the ECU reprogrammed for more HP???? Thanks for your advises.

The dealership technician said that the engine mounts were never touched. So, I believe that the previous owner did not do a "swap engine" in it.

.
that's so odd. I'm thinking it might have been a stolen/ or salvage (half of a car) VIN swap? Before the previous owner had it. Not to freak you out...but something as fundamental as the engine type should've come up right as a V6 on that VIN search. Aftermarket leather would slip by but no way would the engine type.
