Performance cams perform much better with high compression. Use a stage I if staying stock.....anything more aggressive will not net the results you are looking for unless you build your bottom end using higher comp pistons

thanks, i was thinking of turbo charging a stock b16a, but im afraid i might blow my motor quick. so thats why i'd rather just change up the camshafts for more kick to the motor.

You can find a decent used turbo setup for the same price as those S2 cams.

Cams will give you up to 15hp.
Turbo can give you 100hp easily.

If you plan on turbo you better hope you're not running a B16 trans if you drive on the streets.

back to your original question; before you do camshafts, it would be wise to do the valve springs, or both at the same time.

in regards to the transmisssion, i have a cable B16 S1 trans with Wavetrac LSD, no problems with the short gears and i drive the car everyday. the talk about the transmissions is just talk. the only transmission i wouldn't run is the YS1 from the B17.

if you decide to go turbo, do a lot of research. I personally would advise against buying a used kit or turbo if you don't know what to look for. buying a new kit will eliminate a lot of problems. i pieced mine together, learning a lot as i went. shouldn't have to start new threads with turbo related questions as there are plenty out there that will answer your questions. make sure you do a lot or research and a lot of reading

blu_civic = good info

honestly before you dump money into a b16 NA....do research and see who much money is spent on it just to get it into the 180whp range. for the same (if not less) money you can build a LS block from scratch and end up with more overall tq & whp.

I have like 3 old b16 block in my garage. one day i'll get around to doing somethign with them. probably try different setups like stroker na, stock stroke na, & turbo block

as for cams i would go with 00-01 itr cams they can be found for $300-350 & easy drop at 0/0, set lashing and go.
as for springs i would go with RMS SL springs & stock seats/retainers... $150.

LS or B20 vtec is your best bet for making power N/A when starting out with a B16. Otherwise, about $3k for a turbo B16 or more $ for N/A B16 making about 200whp.

b16 and b18 have the same piston diameter and combustion chamber diameter, which is why you can use a b16 head gasket. LS-v would definitely be a good choice for some cheap power over what you currently have. you could even use the b16 pistons in the ls block for some higher compression around ~ 12:1

It is common nowledge that all B16 and b18 engines use the same ring size or 81mm. Larger pistons and rings are also sold for overbore engine, but it is marginal
