Default Anybody running a higher FD in their S2000?

Is there anybody on this board running a higher final drive gear in their S2000? If so, how do you like it?

I just wanted to bring this topic up because I have not seen it discussed on here before.

I thought it would be a good mod to help lessen the effect of the F20's lack of bottom end and midrange.

yes, search s2ki.com, it's the best mod for the s2k bang for buck wise.

bang for the buck??? it's like $2,000 after install! With that money you could drop in a clutch/flywheel/intake/spoon prog. rate springs

not sure where you get 2 grand from. The gears cost under a thousand and *if* you have the work done at your dealer, they will charge a max of $400. So, for $1400, you'd be shaving off at least half a second from your quarter mile times just but upgrading to say a 4.44 gear set. I don't drag race so I only use the quarter mile as a reference.

ahhh...I was looking at the ATS final drive which is $1,600 and the Spoon Final Drive which is $2,500. I'm not sure what the diff is between a final drive and final gear set. My bad.

final drive=gear set they are all the same besides the ATS set which goes in the tranny, not in the diff assembly. The ATS unit will probably cost over 2 grand after install. The gear set I was talking about was the J's which is under $1000.00 and includes a ring and pinon gear.

with the 4.77 gear set, its like 145mph top speed, IIRC....so the 4.44 is a little higher.......i dont think u should every need to be doing that on a public road anyway. its not a bad compromise

OK, now that we know that a higher FD is a good mod for S2ks, who makes them and what are the ratios? Also, what are the prices?

J's - 4.44
ATS - 4.XX?

Who else?

One of the salemen who sells ferraris down the street got a final drive upgrade on his s2k and after driving it I must say I am very impressed. He also bought a lightweight flywheel and clutch since he's trying to work it up without warranty issues. He spent a little under 2K with a hook up. He said with the stock tires it can be pointless if you are trying to drag race but he has some titanium volks in 15in with A048's that he speacial ordered.

Interesting, the stock tires are pretty much the stickiest it gets.....J's racing offers 4.3, 4.44, and 4.77, do you know which ratio he was running on his S2k? I think i'm gonna go the same route as your buddy with my S.

I think the 4.77 he's going to be getting the carbon driveshaft from ACTP i think that's how it's spelled. Anyway he felt the stock tires on his particular application were highly inadequate. He also runs a custom header and exhaust that are extremely light. Don't know which but that damn car is fast. He says he has caught 2 s2k's with the Comptech kits and walked both of them till 60 (though this might be due to poor driving or launch on thier parts)

And not a single one of those mods will likely improve the performance of the car any measurable amount. For $2k you just bought a bunch of bling-bling no-fast parts.
