Anyone farmiliar with Vacuum Metalizing?
So I found a set of plastic center caps on ebay to match the design on my chrome rims I found at the local junk yard. Only problem I have is these are they standard Honda gray and I need them chrome. I called around and got a few different prices ranging from $65-$90 for regular chrome plating and $18 to $25 for something called vacuum metalization. From what I know about this is basically like chrome plating, just doesn't hold up in durability like regular chrome plating does. I was told on average I would get about 2 to 3 years before I would start seeing any issues with it.
My question is, has anyone had any experience with this process? Would this be the same process that your standard Pep Boys style chrome hubcaps would be? I've seen these last quite a long time and you can get a basic set for under $50 so I assume this would not be true chrome plating due to the cost.
$20 per cap is alot better on my pocket book that $80+
