Default "Typical" Idle RPM Question from Newb

Hey guys. Just bought a 94 DX with the D15B7 in it. I love the thing to death. Just filled up for $30 (premium because that's less than half what I used to spend on gas so I figured what the hell..).

My only minor concern is the RPM at idle. It never drops too low or is "rough" but it was idling between 450-550 yesterday. I took some carb/choke cleaner to the throttle body and the thing was as black as sin itself. Not when I was through with it!

So my question: What is the typical idle range for these motors? I'm unfamiliar with these small displacement guys as I've only dealt with the engines in my Jeep. I rebuilt that one in the fall and it went from a 4.0 to 4.5. Quite a bit larger than this little guy haha. It seemed to be idling around 750(ish) this morning on the way to work which I was quite happy with. But I'm still uncertain what is the "norm."

Any info would be great. Thanks guys!

Do not buy premium, waste of money and it does nothing.

You could try adjusting the idle screw, or cleaning the IACV. I am not sure of the exact idle but once warmed up I think it is around 700-00, maybe someone else can clarify this.

I thought idle for automatic was 750 and 500 for manual but I'm probably wrong

I would tend to agree. I'm not going to look it up.

Yeah, after I posted I realized I should have added in there that it's a 5 spd manual. I figured that it would idle a little lower but not that low lol.

But if that's about normal then I feel much better!

I've got a little cleanup work to do yet on her.
