so i picked up this motor to salvage what was left and i cried when i tore it down.

the motor went kaboom when the owner dropped in some toda spec B's

 

Sleeves are replaceable. I wouldn't throw away the block. Make sure u keep the main caps etc.

Whats crazy is I believe on the box it says it should use TODA springs and valves only. What a knuckle head.

The block is really important cause of the B18C5 stamp ( American R ). Not so many around and new ones come blank from the dealer. I would say its a rare piece now a days

 

My block came stamped from the dealer. It was also stamped R dot

New blocks are stamped B18C5. They just do not have a VIN attached.

 

That is correct. And with honda stamping rdot on the block its an almost gaurantee that the block wasnt stolen from an itr

I did the same think to my h22 motor back in the day, threw in a pro2 cam (with matching vavlerain ) but didn't degree them, I got almost the exact same results.
It's a shame this guy tried it on a b18c5.

 

The cams should be ok though, right?

 

They should be checked for straightness and magnafluxed on top of the normal visual inspection.

 

I see where your going with this. would be a shame to see a set of Spec B's go down!
