Default d16z6?

my d16a6 motor in my 89 si is pretty much gone... i know where i can get a complete d16z6 motor for a good price... will i have to do an obd0 to obd1 conversion or can i just switch over the parts on my old d16a6 to the d16z6 and make it work properly... if so, what all do i need to do?

Basically the Z6 is pretty much the same motor as a A6 - but it's OBD-1, and has VTEC.

So what I'm saying is that it's a direct bolt-in... almost...

(If you stay OBD-0)
As for mounting one of those beasts, you'll need to transfer the entire drivers side motor mount from the A6, to the Z6 - and lose the L-shaped bracket. Bolt up the Si tranny to the Z6 block (maybe use the Z6 clutch as well, A6 clutch will work too). Then transfer your Si wiring harness to the Z6 block - everything plugs right in except for one connector... You'll notice that the thermostat housing has a wiring plug in it - the two wire sensor on the back of the A6 block is relocated to thermostat housing on the Z6 block. You'll have to custom fabricate the wiring to plug in there (easier if you have a Z6 wiring harness). Put on your old Si distributor (nasty fit), and your Si injectors.

Then just drop it in, and get it running using the PM6 ECU (for now).

Once you have all the bugs worked out, then you can worry about vtec activation - I recommend getting a Zdyne one-wire conversion (I just ordered mine), you'll get nice beefy fuel maps, and all the goodies of an OBD-1 ECU (minus the VSS functions! )

I'd get the JDM DOHC ECU for SOHC VTEC motor. I used it for 6 months and loved it. If you ECU is not chipped, you need a Knock sensor, and 2 oxygen sensors in the A-pipe as close to the header as possible.
Look at this...
