Default hesitation problem

alright guys...i think i may have figured this one out...someone let me know if im wrong....or if they know whats going on....i did a search earlier and read about b16's having hesitation problems when you only run 1 o2 sensor....and thats exactly what im doing....the engine runs fine when its cold...then when it gets warm...it cuts out a good bit...pretty much all the time...acept for partial throttle....so...i was playing around switching the o2 wires....didnt help at all...but i was driving around and the speedo cable came out...and the car started running perfect....only vtec wouldnt engage...so..that means vss sensor wasnt working...and the ecu was going into 'safe mode' basically..right? i put the speedo cable back in..and of course the car hesitaed again...no codes.....i disconnected the secondary o2...still no code...still ran just as shitty...so tomorrow im going take the manifold and get 2 bungs welded into the stock b16 mani locations..and hopefully that will help....what do you guys think? could it possibly be anything else??

Either you need to run two o2's in the primaries or a single heated o2 in the collector will also work. If you want to get creative, do a conversion to obd1, which only looks for 1 o2 & that will work too - it's just more expensive & since you don't live in Ca, you don't need to do it for smog...

Oh, as to the car running fine when cold or with the speedo cable out - the ecu runs in open loop mode until it's up to operating temp. It also runs in open loop most (all?) check engine codes. Open loop means it doesn't look to the o2 sensor to make adjustments in the fuel/ignition - it runs in a rich mode to insure that detonation doesn't occur.
