ive got a crazy problem, i just cant figure it out. ive been working on my ac for a couple of weeks now. the only way i can get my ac compressor to kick on is to take a wire and ground the relay manually. it comes right on and starts cooling, but does not turn on the fast idle. i have checked everything but the computer. ive checked wiring, relays, thermostat,temp. control unit in the dash, and cooling fans. please help me figure out this problem. thanks.....

 

have you checked your pressures? pressure switch may be open due to high/low pressure.

jumping the relay would bypass this - showing it could potentially be your issue.

 

yes, i have checked that too. good pressure on the low side and high side. i read somewhere that the ground in the computer could be bad, but that car runs great and the mpg is still right at 30 -32. (5 speed car)

 

"Static" pressures on the low and high side are ? The outside temp is?

What are the readings across the ac pressure switch?

 

If you're sure your pressures are in spec then you should pull a junkyard ac pressure switch. These things don't go bad often tho.
