Default EX ED3 with Auto DPFI ZC

i was at the yard today gathering parts for my MPFI conversion and saw a EX ED3 with a automatic DPFI ZC motor.*ZC were the only letters stamped* its auto so i cant use the ecu. to my knowledge.

BUT!

can i use the head, convert it to MPFI & use the crank and possible P29 pistons

to stroke my D15B2 and use a Si ecu

Can't use the crank to stroke your existing block (at least not without extensive modification) but it'd be worth it if you can take the entire engine intact.

you should be able to use your tranny. just gotta use your flywheel too.

you'd need a obd0 mpfi ecu, so one from a sohc zc, si, or ex would work. pretty sure you can use the ecu from that ex. think the brain for the auto is piggybacked onto the engine ecu, but im only guessing. you would have to take a look under the floor panel.

if you use your manifold, you should be able to make your cruise control work.

what's there to clarify.

just remove the torque converter and plate drive. probably need to remove the torque converter case cover.

use your case cover, use your fly wheel, use your clutch/pressure plate.

*** here, remove everything in the above part of the pic, and install the bottom part of the pic, which you have cause it's coming from your car.

yup

*** just gotta remember. the car is in the junkyard for a reason. don't get upset if the engine ends up being a lemon, and you need to do a full rebuild.

what should i look for to determine lemon or not lemon

ALSO is the zc head differ from my d15b2 head such as valve size, springs, distributor, cam for sure right?

because wouldn't it be nice if i could just grab the short block with the cam and save a few bucks.

waited one hr and bumped the thread.

there are a lot of things you can look for.

hole in the block
if you can do a comp test, see if the rings are bad.
if you're gonna just pop off the head, you can look that way too.
bent valves
spun bearing
bad valve guides

and as far as i can remember, and dont quote me on this, but i think the only difference for a zc to a d16a6 is the cam shaft, and the pistions. everything else should be the same spec as a d16a6.

pistons are the same. it's just the cam. and for that matter ex sedans never came dpfi. some one probably trunk swapped an lx or dx sedan. like 90_ex said look for damage on the block. if it hasn't thrown a rod, and doesn't have spun bearings, i'd swoop it. can always be honed and re ringed.

Head is gonna be the same as yours. Cam may be different.
Take the engine, leave intake manifold behind, use either yours, or an MPFI one.

See if the car has body damage, maybe the junked it for that. Then you can hope the engine is good.
