Default Turbo Kit for the GSR

I have some money finally and was wondering what the best turbo kit was for most hp gain? Also what engine modifications would you suggest to do to my stock motor before bolting the turbo kit on? Thanks need lots of help.

GReddy and Drag make some model-specific Turbo Kits for our GS-Rs.

As for the motor - I would reinforce the bottom end (lower the compression to a more turbo friendly 8.5-9:1 as well) and also concentrate on the fuel management.

Revhard T3/T4. You can run up to 9 or 10 pounds of boost on stock internals with your motor now. As for superchargers...

I would get Vortech if I had to but not Jackson.

If you want the most hp gain, I'd go custom or just get a drag or revhard kit and replace the turbo with something bigger like a t3/60-1 or something. I think the max rev kit lets you choose your turbo. You'd probably have to get Hondata or AEM system to replace your ecu. There's a lot you could do to your engine before bolting on a turbo kit if you have the money...

why woudl u get a vortech? because it produces bigger numbers? vortech also only produces big numbers at redline, and nowhere before...so it not only carries the parasitic drag of a supercharger, it also has more lag than a turbo.

drag 3 or revhard are both good kits. low compression pistons, rods, sleeved if youre planning on boosting high levels. also engine management, probably the best investment you can make when boosting. post in forced induction forum, youre likely to get more help. make sure you know what youre getting yourself into before going turbo.

I put turbo on my 99 si , a while back when i first got into the import scene and has extra cash.... i just wanted to go fast and didnt care about reliability(well did but didnt ask questions about how reliable the motor would be and if it would hold up with stock internals if i added a turbocharger) Anyways i put a greddy turbo kit without intercooler on the si motor that was stock(greddy exuast, wheels, lowered, etc..)and the motor didnt last maybe 6-8months and around 10,000 miles...at first i was leaking hella oil, then my oil pressure built up and blew out the dipstick while racing and shot out oil all over my nice silver car(serious this was no little leak it was insane)then 2 months later i started hearing a pinging in 3rd gear high rpms, before i could get it checked i lost all top end power and was leaking mad oil out the head...i thought what a waste of money , i just spent $3000 on a turbo kit for a perfectly fine car, that was a fast and fun already, and then it just f*cked everything all up and i got a piece that i have to dump more money into just to keep runnin. Anyways, i recommend you do extensive research and have lots of prep work if installing the motor(reinforce bottom end, fuel management)
Also before i ever took the 99 si to get fixed it got stolen,lol.. got 14g from it so i was happy, got a ls and had cash to boot,
sold ls not i got 95 gsr runs great extensive mods, 17" racing hart m5,blk on blk leather, type r spoiler, full ww rs kit, 2000 front end, 000 rear bumper/taillights, intake exaust header, R cams, fuel pressure reg. etc..)

DO RESEARCH! ask someone who actually had the setup you are thinkin about and ask what problems came up with motor, cost, prep work,

if installed properly any GOOD engine shouldbe able to take 8psi on stock internals, tuning is the real key tho

who installed your kit? how many pounds were you running? it's a scary story, but I firmly believe that if installed properly and not ran past 7psi, everything should be absolutely fine as long as everything is monitored and maintained well...

go for a revhard stage 1 or 2...afterhourz performance on http://www.groupbuycenter.com has a crazy good deal on revhard turbos, like 2600 shipped for a whole kit. check it out, and http://www.afterhourzracing.com

stock internals is fine as long as you dont boost too much. i recommend a DRAG3 or REVHARD. i prefer DRAG.

I've seen properly installed greddy and drag 3 kits..tuned as well...blow piston rings after two weeks. 94s-2001s. Ive seen some cars last for a year on stock internals. So I wouldnt necessarily say that any GOOD engine will last indefinitely on stock internals.
