Hey,
So I just installed a new brake caliper on my 99 Civic (front left) and a pair of pads, but I do not have the retaining clips. The pads stay in place long enough for me to put the caliper down over them and hold them, is it safe to drive without the clips or should I hunt down some new ones?

Those are just extra. Honda put them in there because they couldn't figure out what to do with them.

if you goto Advanced Auto or etc.. and buy Wagner brake pads, they come with new clips.

 

The anti-rattle clips? No you don't need them. The pads will rattle without them though. Raybestos sells them as a kit and they can be purchased pretty reasonably from most autoparts stores.
