Whining sound 2009 Civic SI - what is it?
Can you hear it in all gears? Does it come and go depending on throttle position? If so might be hearing the transmission gear whine. That is completely normal.
Yup, this started happening to me a few weeks ago. Hope it's nothing with the tranny rather it be the pulley. They've said it's cheaper and easier to fix
Thanks for the reply. I notice it the most in 6th gear, and I hear it occasionally in 2nd gear when the vehicle is decelerating.
Usually the sound in 6th gear is there constantly; however, there are times where just a tiny bit of throttle can enhance the sound when I am in 6th gear.

Please let us know if Honda is able to (fix or even identify) the whining problem.
My 2010 Civic Coupe LX (approximately 87k miles - yes, I drive a lot) is also making a whining sound. The road noise in my Civic has always been loud, but this is more than just road noise...
I made a recording but it is really difficult to hear.

i dont mean to bring this back from the dead but i just bought an fa5 and that thing whines when i rev it up too, i took the belt off to eliminate any pulley issues and it still made the whine noise, its coming from the passenger side of the engine, anybody found anything out yet? thinking maybe water pump? timing chain tensioner or something in that area

That would suck if tranny issues came up, mine is deffinately engine noise I'm thinking at 118000 it's probably time to replace my timing chain, tensioner and guides that's probably my noise
