Weird starting problem
Hi all,
I've a weird problem with my 2000 Accord Ex. Starting early summer 2012 my car would occasionally not start. All console lights would come on, AC blower, wipers, radio, everything appeared to work. But the engine wouldn't turn over. There's just a very slight hum when I turn the key forward. My starting problems were intermittent. The car would crank fine for a couple of days and then several days in a row I had problems. Since I had two other vehicles available to use I never got around to taking the car to the shop or finding the problem. After a couple of months the problem went away completely..all winter long I've had no problems at all. Then this summer as soon as it got hot the car won't start about half the time. I got stuck the first of the week and was able to crank it with a jump. Today it wouldn't crank so I pulled the battery and charged for a couple of hours...car starts right up. From talking over with an acquaintance he suggested the alternator may be dying. But would a flaky alternator work fine during the winter and then not when it's hotter outside? I thought maybe the AC is bringing the battery low and alternator not charging up sufficiently. But I typically run the AC about half the time..of course more when it gets hot here in SC but likely I've had it on and off since March. Just wondering if anything rings a bell to the members here.
Thanks for any ideas.

I don't think it's the alternator unless it's not charging. You would have no, or very little, power to start the car if that was the case.
With it being so intermittent I'm thinking a bad connection, probably at the starter. Of course, it could be that the starter or main relay is going bad.
