Any ideas?

Car: 1998 JDM ITR S80 LSD

There is about 1/2 inch to go. Dowels are not locating yet.

Top tab is correctly aligned. tried wiggling it about, changing gears with selector etc.

Case goes on to a certain point rods engage into their holes, countershaft bearing is going into place too.

Something seems to be preventing it closing and cannot figure out what it is.

Tried a stage by stage build. Case does go on when main shaft bearing is not in place along with no diff.

Seems to be just the interference fit of the 2 bearings but working on it for 4 hours, took everything apart and rebuilt twice, with zero joy

 

reverse gear on upsidedown?

 

What did you change in the trans? If you changed any gears and used a mismatched set..that will spread the mainshaft and countershaft slightly enough to not allow the case to close. Check the forks for any burrs as well as the inlets for any indentations that would not let them slide together.

 

Good call james. Didnt think to count the teeth on the nee 4th and 5th gears i just purchased. One of them was indeed a tooth out. Cheers brother!
