Adding power to a D15B7
I'm dropping in a new engine, and my Dad is insists on getting another B7 to keep the swap as simple as possible. I want more power if were spending the money on a new engine anyways, but considering he's financing the project, I might have to go with a B7.
Are there very many cheap, easy options to increase the power of that engine down the road? I'll admit I don't know much about performance parts. What about exhaust headers? Or a different intake? Or a turbo?
Would any of these bring the engine to a comparable level of a Z6 or ZC DOHC?
Thanks

A lot of people assume(not just Honda owners) a turbo kit is a bolt on don't worry about it affair. Couldn't be further from the truth- good luck op. I suggest a head swap, too, when Dad's not looking.
You also haven't told us your car model.
It could very well be that you could drop in a a GSR or B motor which is cheaper than boost (and easier in my opinion).
If you HAVE to use a D15B7, which isn't great, and want more power, then you're gonna have to spend some serious cash on some well tuned parts, or forced induction. All of which costs more than just buying a more powerful engine.

Snail, intake, headers, exhaust, ecu, injectors, fuel pump, cams, intercooler, cutting, welding, money.
The closest things there are to "bolt on power" would be short rams, which is really only applicable to muscle cars IMO, a cold air intake, which wont' give you much without other tuning anyway, or a supercharger if you didn't have a honda.

i dont think a d15b7 is even worth buying as a replacement... just buy a d16z6 or d16y8 and throw it in there and dad will never know the difference... and then later on post on here and we can help you wire in vtec... d15b7 is a waste of time...
I have 2 d16y7 complete swaps that are hard to sell because they are so slow and so shitty in general

And just to expand on this, just a cursory list of what it takes to boost:
Snail, intake, headers, exhaust, ecu, injectors, fuel pump, cams, intercooler, cutting, welding, money.

OP, swap in a Z6. You can get one for the same cost as a B7, will bolt straight to all of your B7 periperals, it will give you VTEC, an extra .1L of displacement, and a MUCH more resilient motor to work with should do use any real power adders down the road.
I wouldn't say completely unnecessary, sure you could do a low psi boost and not need all that. But it still isn't cheap is my point. I wouldn't run boost without a better fuel pump and injectors. Not to mention if you run stock exhaust it really won't cut it.
So yeah, i was way way off I suppose.

It can be done on the budget side, if you shop around. My entire setup cost a few cents under $1500 on a Y7, and doubled it's BHP to the wheels. I guess it all depends on your definition of cheap. A complete LS swap would cost about the same, and net 60-70 less WHP.
It's all good though
