M97 CD5 4dr 2.2 B2 automatic. Speedo "dances" while driving causing the car to Shift from first while accelerating to forth or third. I'm going anywhere in the neighborhood of 10-20mph and the Speedo bounces it's way up to 100 mph or higher. I have an extra speed sensor laying around from a 95 CD5 automatic. If I manually shift the car then it shifts when I tell it to. Another symptom is while driving it will lay down on 0mph and take a little nap for a while, but the vehicle still runs accordingly. The only CEL code I have is for the evap canister. There are other issues with car, but this one is really pissing me off.
check the wiring and connector. I had the same symptomatology recently (without the shifting issue as it was a manual trans) and found a corroded pin. sand paper and di-electric grease and no trouble since.

That i will definitely be what i check out. After all it is under the hood and exposed to elements that end up coming off the road and oil leaks etc.

Either a speed sensor or your alternator is going out. I just had to replace my alternator because all of my lights were dimmer than usual and my cluster was going bonkers.

I will check out the alternator. Not having any other problems (well i am but not because of the alternator) related to power delivery though... Everything is worth checking.

For sure! Also figured out my battery was shot as well, you can also check the belt for deterioration. My tac is currently on the fritz after I replaced my dizzy O-ring, so I'm sure something happened there. OR it was a horrible coincidence that my tac actually went out at the same time.
This is obviously speed sensor since it's obvious the ecu is making changes based on the input it's receiving from the speed sensor. If this was cluster the ecu wouldn't be making any changes.
