98 manual civic making strange noise (youtube video included)
Hi there, i just recently got a strange noise coming from my 98 manual honda civic ex, my guess as of now would be possibly from my front/left wheel/ cv joint area, today i started my car, and just about 300/400 feet of driving the strange noise began, it sounded exactly as if some metal piece was hanging from the bottom of my car and scraping against the asphalt, i pulled over, checked the bottom of the car as well as the front wheels, nothing. i checked to see if the noise was coming from transmission but the sound continues even in neutral, the noise gets much louder when i speed up and lower as i break/slow down. it only makes the noise while moving, its a very loud noise (high pitch metal to metal contact possibly) and does not follow a regular pace (beat) although always present while the car is moving and can be barely heard when im driving under 10mph. The noise persists while backing up, however i just discovered that it stops making noise when i make sharper turns. I recently changed an oil pan gasket which requires the exhaust manifold to be removed as well, not sure if that has anything to do with it as the car has been driving fine for at least 2 weeks after before the noise started. another guess would be my break pads as they are currently running on low, again, not sure if that could generate this kind of sound as its nothing like the break pad noise. Anyways, im not driving the car for now, and hope i get some type of a response, hints in regards of where this noise could come from. Here the video
