vin explained!
Okay guys so I went to the junk yard today and saw a few efs I felt bad they'd thought id get a.memory of them so I took there dash vins since their to be gone either if i leave them or take them so a nice unique collection And it later got me to thinking. Be decoding the vins a nice question...
Here's what I found.
JHM9369MS011067 ( crx si )
1ED3544ML000368 ( sedan lx )
2ED6458Lh508401 ( hatchback dx)
2Ed6456LH560481 ( hatchback dx)
Then I have my own hatchback si. Which is
JHMED7365KS001251 (hatchback si)
Not sure if I remember mine correctly.
But point being as for my question.
The last numbers. Of all these vins. Example the Dx hatchbacks
508401
560481
These last numbers do they mean that the car is the 508401 dx model then to come the 560481?
How many cars are their such as ED6 ? (ED6 means any civic hatchback Dx model trim)
Does it get to (example)
2HGED6xxxJH000001-2HGED6xxxJH999999 (hatchback Dx 1988)
2HGED6xxxkH000001-2HGED6xxxKH999999 (hatchback Dx 1989)
2HGED6xxxLH000001-2HGED6xxxLH999999 (hatchback Dx 1990)
2HGED6xxxMH000001-2HGED6xxxMH999999 (hatchback Dx 1991)
So by my example you can see here all the same but the J K L M. These four letters mean the different years. So saying there are 999999 civic made for each year. Does it mean if I where to say change the "H" ( the letter after the year letter is assembly plant ) which in this case I can change it to an "L" would that mean their is another 999999 civics out there now? Or if I'm to change it to "S" does it mean now there is not only 999999 + 999999 but. Adds another 999999 to the equation?
So their is not just 999999 civic DX for the year say 1990 but also 999999 for every assemley plant ( H L S)
point of this is to know how many efs there are likely to have been and how many left.
Leave any comments on thoughts or correcting me I'm trying to learn of vins.
