Default Worth it to fab header?

I have a buddy that works at Chrysler who is going to machine me a stainless exhaust flange for the head and I was wondering if fabbing a header off of that is worth it and if its built right what kind of gains can I see on a stock k-pro k20a2 tuned.

knock yourself out then

FYI, materials alone would probably come close to a decent header already.

There is always room to gain more knowledge. Trial and error is all I can say...

Just having the mandrel bender at your disposal doesn't mean much unless this guy has a really wide range of different centerline radius dies and mandrels for the specific tube sizes you need to build your header. Then there's the fact the well over 99% of the people on this planet couldn't build a header properly to save their life, so you might not be in as good a position as you think you are.
I've done more header R&D on the K-series than all of the manufacturers combined, so I can tell you exactly what diameters and lengths will make your engine the happiest, but you might not be able to actually build it and get all of the lengths exactly equal. Building headers is a weird combination of art as well as science and fabrication skill, so you might need to actually build 20 or 30 of them before you get the hang of it, and for most people that'll never happen no matter what.
If you know what you're doing its easy to beat the hell out of any production header. We did a back to back test with mine compared to the POS Made in China Skunk2 header this particular engine had on it to begin with, and mine beat it by over 30 HP. Its pretty rare to see that much gain from just a header and tuning, however, so don't count on being able to do that yourself.

He could be 120 years old and not know **** about the way a Honda motor responds to header desing, collector size, etc.. Good luck on your quest of building a header by Mr Sprint lol..... Cheers!

For all the time, effort, materials etc,
you are better off just buying a well designed header, and your done,
And then putting all your labour into something else on the car.

I agrea with the above post.
I disagree with the rest of the posts.
build a header.. its worth the experience and learning and good practice to fabricat
you can make it fit your chasis as youd prefer.
haters gonna hate.. I like diy. worst case is it doesn't work out.
