Default Newly purchased Prelude 96 SI Fuel Consumption as well as high RPMs

Hello everybody, I'm a new owner of a 96 Prelude SI 5spd. A few questions, while driving 70mph, my rpm reaches almost 4000. Is this normal? I think it is a bit high. And can someone tell me how many miles do I get per gallon of gas on this particular car? It seems like a gas guzzler. And lastly, is it possible that maybe the previous owner may have swapped the original tranny with a h22 tranny? I heard that was a lsd tranny. Would that cause higher rpms?

What engine do you have in it now should be the h23a1? And I think you driving around 70 mph and at 4k rpm is normal might seem a bit high but that's just how it is. And your gas mileage combined for that car is 24 mpg.
Anything is possible for your car so yes it may have an LSD transmission in it or it may have a different tranny then what it originally came with stock.

Ya its normal for the engine to sit that high at 70mph. If you think about it these engines are meant to rev to about 8K so 4K is only about 50% of what it could. Also there N/a engines which benefit from short gear ratios. So they will top out faster, to grab the next gear. What the stamp say on the trans? m2b4? t2t4? these would be common LSD oem trans codes. As far as milage that really depends on how heavy your foot is first off. Second what kind of driving, and which grade fuel you use. Hope this helps!

Wow, shows you how much I know about cars, Lol.. Kinda wish this wasn't such a high rever though. I bet it would have saved a hell of a lot more gas if it wasn't. It's fun and I fell in love with this the second I headed home after the purchase. Such a fun car to drive and the power and handling is awesome. And yes, I have plans for a h22 one of these days. My car also has 222k miles and it still drives like it's new. I just did an oil change 2 days ago and planning to do a full tune up, air filter, plugs, cap/rotor, fuel filter, and pcv. Hopefully, that'll give me a few more mpg's. Thanks anyway. You guys are great! Please feel free to share more info that I should know about this car.

And Thirsk, it's an h23a.

And Sparksman, I will find out about the code once I get home.

Thanks again...

If you want to spend money you can get the R's down. Private message a guy named "Synchrotech-Transmissions" They make F23 5th gears that will fit into Hseries trans. They are the longest 5th gears you can get, and will make you sit closer to 2K at 70mph. I plan on doing this, and it will make your car get about a good 30mpg. The gears cost a couple hundo and then you still have to have a shop install. But its an option if you do alot of freeway driving like myself, thats why i intend on doing it.

Thanks, that's good to know. However, for a $1850 used car, I don't think it's worth doing all that. I'm sure the car was built for performance. The way it drives, I'll just have to sacrifice a little and drive speed limit more often. At least I'll have the option to punch it and get a much faster response than if I had the F gearing installed. I'll post some pictures soon to show you guys what I paid for. It's unbelievable for the price. The only problem is I feel a slight shake while idling at a stop light. It almost seems as if a vacuum hose was pulled off or something but I inspected all that already. I'm thinking I may need to install some new o2's. Maybe it has to do with the air/fuel. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated. Thanks guys.
