Default 1993 Civic SI project

Hi Guys, I am recreating this thread in order to share with you my little but ambitious project with a nice EH9 I got 7 months ago. It's a 1993 civic SI with a 1.6L DOHC engine all stock, got it from a nice lady that seemed not to use it much.

By the way, I'm from Lima, Peru so basically all the performance parts are being imported through ebay until now.

This is the car:

Here in Peru sometimes previous owners modify the original mileage, this one came with 90K + 5K from me. I try to believe this is the authentic number.

This is the inside:

A lot of work to do here:

100% stock:

I don't find to many of these on internet, it seems to be a limited version or something:

Actually that is not there anymore ...

Needs replacement immediately

Some things from the outside that need to be fixed:

Don't like how the taillights look:

And finally those rims and wheels I would like to change a lot:

Only thing from that list I would even CONSIDER putting on my car would be the camber kits (even though they are not needed)....everything else is absolute junk.

The coilovers are known for leaking/blowing
The lca bushings wear fast
Cheapo plug wires are a no no. Plus 10.2mm is overkill
and...you don't need 6 spark plugs. NGK plugs only!

Does the car run fine already? If not I would spend some of that money on making sure the car is mechanically sound before adding the bling.

For the exhaust system you can just have a shop weld up something nice for a few hundred dollars that will outlast any ebay special.

I'm in agreeance with JuggerNaut-CTR. Modern day Skunk2 parts are garbage. Honda's ignition systems are also very particular with what you run. I'd run OEM plug wires and stick to NGK or Densos for plugs.

Let's see, I don't want to be spending every month on the auto shop because something else just get wracked or I just get dumped in the middle of nowhere because of some malfunction. I think those are the consequences of buying a second hand car.

Thanks for the recommendation on the exhaust, I think I can find a shop that can build something good for the money.

Ok, thanks for the advice. What do you think of these?

You need to read my thread about quality parts to purchase. Link is in my signature.

Also, check Amazon for parts. Many have international shipping (though I don't know if to Peru ... but I do it to Canada relatively often). Consider the
Tokico RAK503-I Tokico RAK503-I
for suspension.

Are you looking to have the adjustability or are you going to be using this for a DD with the intent to drive aggressively?

I got KYB's with Eibach lowering springs and the setup works great for some pretty impressive driving.

As you can see, I'm really a noob on this world of tunning, I've just bought my car 6 months ago.

Maybe if you can tell me which parts I should be looking for instead of saying that the others are just garbage. I really appreciate your help, but really, I need some kind of help in here.

Thanks.

its better when u research and see what reviews people have for the parts. we will NOT spoon feed you when all you have to do is google... you will learn so much more in the process

I agree with that, but also I just can't base my decision on subjective opinions such as "is junk" "stop looking at garbage" or something like that. As you say that, in other forums they gave skunk2 a good rating, so it's a bit confusing.

On the other hand, nowadays you have to be very careful of what you read from google, you can find whatever **** some guy said, so jumping in to that pool with no guidance can lead you to make a wrong decision.

Well guys, really thanks for your advice but honestly I don't have a solid argument why I shouldn't buy those parts.

Because from others first hand experience....they FAIL too quickly. Don't understand what's tripping you up by that.

doing some research, I found this options:

1. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190615906087&fromMakeTrack=true&ssPageName=VIP:watchlink:top:en
2. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tokico-HP-shocks-lowering-springs-set-92-00-Civic-EG-EK-94-01-Integra-DC/281098210011?rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222002%26algo%3DSIC.FIT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D261%26meid%3D8085224582017967027%26pid%3D100005%26prg%3D1088%26rk%3D2%26sd%3D190615906087%26
3. http://www.ebay.com/itm/TOKICO-DSPEC-R-SHOCKS-SPRINGS-COILOVER-CIVIC-92-00-INTEGRA-94-01-/310402969333?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4845756ef5&vxp=mtr
4. And these two:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Koni-STR-T-Shocks-Set-94-01-Integra-92-95-Civic-DC2-EG-/200722037740?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2ebbf73bec&vxp=mtrhttp://www.ebay.com/itm/Ground-Control-Coilovers-Springs-92-00-Honda-Civic-EG-EK-Del-Sol-Koni-4530-02-/281108788740?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item417363b604&vxp=mtr
Considering prices I was trying to decide between number 2 and 4, but I would like to know if its too much difference between a spring and a coilover.

Has yet to say what the car will be used for NOR how low the car will be. Sigh.
You did not read anything in this link.

It's obvious.
I'm going to use it for some track days and daily street driving. Basically I just want a suspension that can last a good time, with good stability and adjustment depending on the surface I'm going to ride and also provides a good look to my car. I'm planning to have this civic at least for 5 to 9 years, so I'm willing to spend some cash on modifications since is a bit old.

Well finally I made my choice, I'm going for the skunk2...just joking , the koni + ground control coilovers, fits my budget and for a first buy I think is a good start.

Mm...as I was saying, I don't what kind of maintenance the previous owner did, so I was also considering on changing the bushings, so I found this kit:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Prothane-Total-Kit-Honda-Civic-1992-1995-82003-/140945418760?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Make%3AHonda%7CModel%3ACivic%7CYear%3A1993&hash=item20d1006a08&vxp=mtr. Are those ok?
