Default Questions regarding tuning a 98 civic

Hows it going I am new too the forum and had a few questions regarding my 98 civic ej, it has a D16Y7 stock in it right now I know I am going to have too swap it out and I am wondering what would be the best engine series too use in order too get the most power for my money. Keep in mind I can swap the engine out with myself with a buddy of mine so that won't be a issue as long as it fits properly.

I did a little bit of research but most of the stuff I found besides on here was people hating on civics, I was leaning towards the b18C but I have also heard the k20 is the best but wanted too confirm that, I don't plan on boosting it either. and budget would be about 4-5k.

Yep. Between that and reading, you can get more information than you would creating a thread. Any Honda engine can be swapped into an EJ chassis, it just depends on your budget and mechanical aptitude.

Alright appreciate it, That was my main concern was what would fit into the EJ chassis, budget wise I got about 4-5k too spend on a motor and my buddy works for a shop and is going to help me with it.

USDM OBD2A B18C5. Replace two mounts, your shift linkage, and your axles, and it'll bolt right in. Slap in the matching factory ECU, and you'll have 200 to the crank with just a few hours of work.

Alternatively, put some forged pistons and rods in your Y7, bolt on a 19T or GT2860RS turbo with the necessary supporting mods and a proper tune, and have 300 to the wheels. More work, same budget, more power.

THIS would be the option I would choose. Why bother with an NA swap when you can boost your current setup for the same amount of money?

Simplest swap B series and tons of aftermarket options. Most power K series or J series but not the cheapest or simplest swap. H22 is a good bang for the buck and is low cost if using the H series trans H2B is killer but increased cost a bit. For about the same cost maybe a little more as a B series or H series swap you could get some forged rods and pistons and built a turbo kit for the D16 and make 300whp. I went B series because A B18B1 feel into my lap and I have a Hx which has the D16Y5 motor. I ended up doing LS Vtec but after looking back I could have boosted the B18B1 stock and made more power for the same money I spent on the Vtec head swap. Dont get me wrong I love Vtec nothing else like it it just put my plans to boost back a few years but in the end I have a much better flowing head with more options, better rocker arm design and Vtec YO.
