Default Bought an OTS Borg Warner S366 66/73/.91 - clipped from the factory?

Bought a brand new its s366 from a BW dealer locally and turbine wheel looks like its clipped. Is it? Is this normal? How will my 8.5-1 H22a spool this (since its clipped) in a .91 housing?

Any help is more than appreciated

Some are like that. But if it wasn't a brand new unit, the facility could have not liked the way the turbine wheel looked and could have done so to ensure its repair.

You'll make great top end power, but "spool" shouldn't be too much in your thinking, because its not "that" kind of turbo with an 80mm exhaust wheel. just enjoy the top end power and you'll have no regrets.

Its a 66/73/.91 setup not an 80mm turbine wheel....

Its primarily used for drag with the occasional Sunday drive but I don't want peak torque to be at 8000 RPMs either....

And it was brand new sealed up, definitely straight from BW

Oh yes correct the inducer is 80mm. So does clipping a turbine wheel essentially make it a "set diameter" ? Like like a 80/73 turbine wheel a 80 wheel?

I'm a little bit confused on what clipping does, I understand its done to make the turbine wheel flow more for class restrictions on size...

If you say so.. *snicker*

I get a lot of these BW "s"366 myself. Have had them for about 2004.

This one was straight from the BW OEM parts bin.

Here's one or two I did before all the Diesel Local dealers were getting all the parts

Peak torque on most VTEC 1.8-2.2 Litre setups reach peak torque about 6000rpms in either the .91, .84 A/R, which uses the 80.1mm inducer wheel diameter with the 73.5 exducer.. (The "73" in your very own description)

Yes as I mentioned before I was wrong and matt was correct. I'm used to referring to a turbine wheel size by the exducer...

That is why I asked him about wheel clipping.... since I don't 100% understand it...

I chose the 66 for a lot of reasons but was not expecting to receive a clipped wheel..... I was not sure of the effects it would have....

I understand that, I put that in the title for a reason, I am used to referring to wheel size by the smaller diameter is compressor inducer, exhaust exducer... when he mentioned 80 I was confused... obviously he was right and I was wrong.

Understood. The clipping was more as a clean-up process in this case, from mainly a burred batch that needed to be smoothed and is very commonly done. There's no class restriction or anything else.. (BW doesn't care about stuff like that.. in fact, no turbo company would), and you should be just fine with that wheel as it sits. 745whp is about what is seen in these turbochargers, as they LIKE boost pressure, and no restrictors or anything to worry about as you use a -4AN Weldon A80 pipe fitting to utilize the oil feed.

You'll be fine. Relax and enjoy it.

That resolves pretty much all of my questions. Thank you both for the help!
