I've got the situation where I need to remove the crankshaft (harmonic balancer) bolt so I can remove the crankshaft pulley on my 2.2L '92 Honda Accord, but I no longer have the special tool like this http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/b...psb0e5f400.jpg
So I'm hoping there might be some alternative method that doesn't require the use of such special tool. How else can I hold that pulley from turning while I try to loosen that bolt with a 19mm socket and breaker bar? Here's a picture of that nut on the pulley, staring me in the face.

 

Some people may look at this and not reply, simply because there are about 30 of the same questions like this asked this month. Did you try "search" feature above? Granted it will show other Honda and Acura results, but they are all the same when it comes to removing the crankshaft bolt.

 

As a matter of fact I did try the "search" feature above, before posting. I typed in crankshaft bolt and got "Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms."
I even tried typing in "crankshaft" and "harmonic balancer" and got the same result.

 

You can drop it low enough so that the passenger tire sits on the ground and turn it using a massive breaker bar or a pipe attached to a wrench provided your tranny can take that beating.

I have had these cars towed to my shop for the just the bolt removal from folks that wanted to do it themselves. They are ridiculously tight, most of the time and REQUIRE a very strong impact wrench to remove. Don't try to pry here, hold there and break the ballancer or timing cover. The only option that may loosen it at your place is a BIG punch and hammer, smack the end of the bolt about ten times and try to use the breaker bar but you'll probably need the air imact. End of story.
