Icon2 Honda Accord 02EX 4 cyl - Vibration after timing belt change

Hello fellow members,

Just replaced original timing belt, water pump and all other related belts at local shop on 107k miles 02 Accord Auto Transmisson 4cyl last week. After taking the car back after change from local shop, I suddenly noticed humming sound from vibration until 3k RPM when accelerating. After say 45mph or so, it's smooth and can't feel any vibration. Only when accelerating, I notice the vibration which is wierd. Don't have any CEL related to transmission. Only CEL code I have since few months is 1457.

This vibration issue wasn't there before inning belt change. Transmission fluid was also removed and filled during service.

Went back to mechanic who did the job and told me it might be transmission issue which doesn't seem right. Read some threads and it seems this might be a balance belt being too tight issue. Is that correct assumption ? Also how long does it take to align balance belt properly ?

Sorry I am not car technology savvy.

can you pull the transmission down into D1, D2, and D3 and duplicate the vibration?

Good point, haven't tried that. Will try it in a hour or so. I mean after reading so much on the internet regarding this problem, my assumption was balance belt and shaft not aligned. Is there anyway to tell if it is transmission issue. Nothing has changed from transmission standpoint except fluid drain and refill. He even put one of those conditioning stuff for transmission and no change. Not sure if trans is a half dud now.

I am going to stop by local shop today and demand that it's fixed. Not sure what else could be wrong. Running out of options. Could timing belt change have triggered transmission issue ? I understand that Honda Accord 02 auto transmissions are tricky.

Same issue with D3/2/1. Obviously more power. But vibration is there.

what happened when you went back to that shop ? just tell them to go for a test drive with you and tell them when you hear the sound and just tell em that you think the balance shaft is not lined up properly which is causing the sound since the balance shafts sole job is to reduce vibration...if you sound like you know what you're talking about odds are they will take it apart and check it out again

Update - Dropped off yesterday to local mechanic and picked up today. It's back to smooth driving it seems and vibration has gone when accelerating. Power is back up to where it should be. Have to drive a bit today. I confronted him yesterday and asked him to check balance shaft. Not sure what he was thinking about talking transmission issues initially. Didn't feel transmission issue though after some research.

When I asked him today he said he redid all his work again today. Maybe a tooth was off or something he said.

No longer feels like a racing car !
