Default civic suddenly lost power, won't turn over

I've been driving my car with no issues. I was coming back home and made a stop for gas. Started back up fine with no problems, but once I hit about 45mph it wouldn't go any faster and gradually slowed down as if it was losing all power. I pulled over and the car stayed running, idled fine and no electrical issues that i am aware of. I turned it off and turned it back on and it started up fine, but would barely move in first gear. I shut it off again and this time it struggled but will not turn over.

The car is a 94 Civic Ex with a D15b. no mods. No cel. Any ideas?

if it dont turns over figure out why its not cranking if its not caused by a dead battery or a bad starter/solinoid

if not caused by an electrical failure put the car in neutral and unplug the distributor and pull the cap and plugs and turn the motor over by hand. and see if the rotor is turning and you can in fact turn the motor over.

also and check your oil to be sure there is in fact oil in there

if it turns over figure out why its not cranking

thanks for the guide, i'll get on it soon. i managed to get it to crank over and start but it sounds really rough and strange, i can't describe the sound the motor is making but it sounds like something weird is going on with the intake. it will bog out and stall after 2-3 seconds though.

The only time I had a vehicle slow down while I had the accelerator to the floor, it was right before the engine seized because it ran completely out of oil...
Other than low/empty oil, I would say check the spark plugs and distributor wires... If it's not that, then try cleaning the fuel injectors and check/replace the fuel filter...
If it's not any of those, then it's beyond my knowledge... I hope this info helps, though I think these were mentioned above as well...

thanks for all the help everyone. i really hope it's not seized. i know there is oil in it. i was able to get it to rev high before i got it towed and it'll start just when i give it gas to bring the rpms up it stalls. i have a feeling it's the distributor since i used a rebuilt one and that was maybe 1-2 years ago. it didnt have any rod knock either. i'll start on all the suggestions in the morning. glad that h-t can still help people after all the years i've been on here.

Does the CEL turn on and then shut off after the main relay primes the fuel pump? Make sure the bulb isn't burned out.

Easy way to check your dizzy is to pull the cylinder 1 plug and wire, have someone ground it and check for spark while you crank it. If you're by yourself I've used a windshield wiper arm as a ground before so I could see it from inside the car. Also take note of the color of the spark.

Check mechanical timing? This should throw a CEL, but it's always a good thing to check.

Last but not least, Compression test. Also, How's your coolant and oil? Any milky residue on the dipstick or oil in the coolant? Sounds alot like a blown headgasket, especially considering how it doesn't want to idle on it's own anymore.

update: oil, and coolant is fine. car won't start at all now. fuel pump primes, cel lights up and goes off as normal. no cel code thrown. 95% sure my distributor is bad. i was going to check for spark but it started raining and has been since the issue started, i live in an apartment complex so anything i do has to be quick or i'll get in trouble. will update when i pick up new distributor in the morning.

I haven't been on in a while, and after seeing the post you made after my reply, it made me think that maybe you have a vacuum leak or something... I hope you were able to get it fixed... Until next time...

i appreciate it.

so far this has been what's happened since i last posted.

i finally was able to pull a code 43 for fuel supply system.

replaced the o2 and fuel filter, did nothing. car is sitting at a shop and so far a sensor went bad that caused my o2 to go bad which clogged my cat and fouled my plugs. car still isn't running yet. i will update as things progress.

car runs. coolant temp sensor failing caused all the above.

i hope this thread can help someone else out one day.
