Default Number 3 spark plug melted.

I ran at the track yesterday and on my qualifying pass my car started popping and farting at the top of 3rd into 4th under spray. Pulled the plugs and the number 3 was melted, the rest were fine. Replaced the plug with another and it ran like a champ all the way home. Anyone got any ideas to why just the one would melt? The car never got hot all day but I could tell it was not at full potential because I could never get it below a 14 flat I was right there to brak into the 13's but couldn't get'er done.

Ek hatch 97 gsr swap I/H/E/, manifold, throttle body, chipped p28, fuel rail and FRP, 80 shot.

Now I'm a little scared to run the nitrous, I don't want to ruin the motor.

Too much timing or too little fuel.

In my experiences cylinder #3 always requires a little extra fuel compared to the rest.

We retarded it a degree or 2. Should we have gone more? I dropped down a heat range with the plugs too.

This is not how you fix the problem. What the plugs look like determines whether or not you have too much ignition timing, or too hot of a plug.

No we did this before we even put the nitrous on. I'm thinking since its a single fogger wet shot the stock fuel pump is not gettin'er done. Time to upgrade the fuel system. I pulled all the plugs and put in fresh ones today, I'll hold off on the spray till I figure out what's going on.

The reason I think it's the fuel system is because today the car was dying at stop lights. I think it's not getting enough fuel. When I dis connect the injector plugs the car bogs down so all injectors are working. I think I just need to go bigger.

You probably arent getting even distribution from the fogger, where is it placed on the car?

Do you know what air fuel ratio you are seeing while spraying?

Post tune

Without pics of the plugs while spraying can't really tell you anything.
Whats total timing / afr.

Just retarding "2" degree's per 50 shot is just a normal rule of thumb, its not the end all be all of the nitrous world.

Not always more than #4... This is all a BS myth. If you were to say runs hotter, then that would be a different story.

Also, as much as 4* could be needed to be pulled with a 50 shot. There are too many variables. Clearly you didn't go 1 to 2 steps colder on the plug and have no clue wat you are doing. Have fun blowing your engine.

Clearly you don't know how to read. I went colder on the plugs. I hate snobby *** people like you. If your not going to help the way even post on a thread.

So the car is not tuned. Chipped p28 i assume you are running a basemap off of ebay or something. I would not be surprised if your rough idle is the result of engine damage at this point. You never ever modify a car that extensively without having the two basic essentials to making it run properly. An air fuel ratio gauge and a proper engine tune.

Wish you would have saved the plugs you raced on. Would really like to see pics, that would tell more of the story.

I can get the other 3 but the melted one was left at the track. The other 3 made it the whole day, the 2 and a half hour drive home and then the 25 minutes to work. The idle issue did not start happening until I changed plugs and plug wires at work today. But then again after the track I have only driven on the freeway.
