Default Location of 5th gear on '92 Accord gearbox?

5th gear just went MIA at hwy speed (65 mph), high revs w/ no go, since then have not been able to get any love from 5th gear.

I can shift into where it was, but it behaves like neutral. I'm not sure if it's the shift fork or the actual gear, I've been searching and some posts say that there is an access port on some generations of Accord that allow access to the 5th gear assembly without having to drop/open the whole gearbox.

Does anybody know if this is the case for a 4th gen, and where I can find it if so?

Thanks!

They are the exact same trannys part for part. Different gear ratios and possible LSD's for some. 4-6th gen Accords all shared that.

Ha! Was just having a look at your build thread when you replied - haven't been on the forum in awhile and was scrolling through the Accord threads and came across your write-up.

Super nice work! Sorry about your turbo, hope the new one works out better for you.

As for the tranny, I think I saw reference to the separate 5th gear access for 2nd or 3rd gen gearboxes, and wasn't sure if it was still possible in later gens - any idea if 4th gens have one?

Hah, yah thanks. Sucks that it crapped out, I will someday send it in to be rebuilt and will potentially stick it on my girlfriends car. (My second project, an 89 civic DX hatch)

I thought you were talking about an access port on the 4th, 5th, and 6th gen trannys. I honestly don't know about that. I know there are small plugs with (IIRC are 1/2" drive ratchet plugs) for taking apart the tranny. As far as an access port for strictly 5th gear I'm not sure. Someone wants to chime in that would be great.

Here's a post about access to 5th gear without dropping the tranny for 3rd gen:

I'm just trying to find out if there's something similar for 4th gen.....
