Default Questions on installing poly-erethane bushing kit

First of all, who here has done it and has any pics.

Second, I've heard of people who didn't have to use a press to push the bushings in. Is that at all possible? I've called several shops about bringing the parts to them and having them press it in for me. They said it'll probably take two hours and $50/hr charge. F that.

I'm thinking of getting this going this weekend along with installing my sway bar, tie bar and strut bars. See how much difference these make while I wait for the coilovers to come.

Any suggestions such as 'watch out for this' or 'be careful when...' would be nice to know now so I don't run into any problems. If I can't get them in myself, I'm gonna just have to bite the bullet and take it somewhere...

You may be able to pound them in with a hammer. Put a socket over the end the same size as the metal sleeve to minimize damage to the bushing itself. Just be very careful to make them straight. I would suggest that you just get them pressed in unless your pressed for loot...

You NEED to have the old bushings pressed out, the new ones will go in without a press but you have to have the stock bushings pressed out.

is that 2 hours @ $50/hr w/ them taking apart the suspension too? Maybe you can take the parts off yourself and just bring them the parts to have pressed in/out. There is no way in hell they can justify charging 2 hrs of labor for just pressing the stuff in/out.

yep, $50/hr for just pressing them in. I told them i'll bring them the parts.

so I'll have trouble taking OUT the stock ones eh? What if I just destroy them and take them out?

you can take them out with a blow torch, it heats the piece and then you hit the old bushing with a hammer, i've seen it done, and it works.

$50/hour and only two hours is dirt cheap for that job...doing a master bushing kit is a royal pain in the ***, i would be more than happy to pay someone $100 to do the work...

nope there is a metal shell that goes between the stock bushing and the control arm. I have heard of a torch and hammer working. I would just wait and save some money, until you install the coilovers.

yea, I know bout the metal shell but isn't that in the middle? oh well, I'll see if I can get them out with a torch and see what happens. if i can't get them out, i'll just run down and have them press it out.

thanks!

Isn't there anyone else who has a press around you? Call around and you would be surprised. I wouldn't pay them more than $30 to have them pressed out if the parts were off. Luckily my shop has a press...

There is a metal shell in the middle and on the outside. The one on the inside tends to rust to the bolt that goes thought the control arm and the outer sleeve tends to rust into the control arm.
