Component Kicks Cont.
I had to relocate the ECU under the carpet not too hard and Im also going to reinforce the panel. But I am also undecided where I want to put the crossover???
Where can you get kick panels like those?? Does anyone sell them already made to fit different cars? or does it have to be custom made? When i get my EK i would love to put kickpanels in it, but only if they are like the ones shown here. Any help on where i could get them at would be great! Thanks!

My friend had some Q-Logic kick panels and they took up alot of space and didn't sound that great for the money he spent on them. So I went in this direction and just cut out holes in the kick panels. Also the car will still have that stock look instead of some 6 1/2 speaker sticking out too far. Just my opinion though.

hahaha good idea for a free upgrade to your sounds, but it defeats the purpose of kickpanels. kickpanels properly aim the speakers to the driver so that the distance the soundwaves travel are equal. your method just aims the speakers directly to your feet area. looks like it'll sound worse than stock since its lower

Looks good. I made my set of kicks in my 94 LX sedan, for only $60 in material they turned out pretty nice, a bit bulky but pointed right and sound good.
I will probably be making a new set soemtime soon, and experiemnting with placing my tweet on the dash or soemthing, to see if I can work my soundstage a bit.

Boro, GSteg, and BrandonClaps....have any of you heard his car yet....until then don't bag on it.....stange things can work in audio.
I've seen systems that have had midranges pointed from the seat back toward the dash that have a good stage. Lots of the guys in IASCA have very strange setups, with horrible pathlengths, and they do very well. The JL GTI stage is supposed to be very stable, yet I would argue most wouldn't agree just by giving it a look....give him a break.
I'm not saying I would have done the same style install if it was my car, but you never know how a car will sound by looking at it.
As far as Q-Logics are concerned, I don't feel that a mass produced piece of plastic is any way to get great imaging, staging, or tonality out of a pair of drivers....just my $0.02

From my experience with car audio, of course you are going to think they sound better then stock in tht location like that, b/c hell, there Momo's, they will sound better, but they can sound a hell of a lot better if you just angeled them out.. and the tweeters down at your feet? No "pro" shop likes that sound, if they could do it ther eway, they would mount them either door faces up, or flush mounted a-pillar.. not ragging your ****, you think they sound good now, try staging them better. What size and kind of amp you running? i would build a lil box for your crossovers and mouth them behind your kicks.. the box will protect them from water and other elements.
btw, nice choice with the Momo's.. there subs with an Xtant (i forgot the series) amp.. cleanest **** i ever heard.

).....Like you said.." strange things can work in audio" For the cost factor vs custom kicks they aint bad at all...
The one thing you must understand about IASCA cars is that only 25 of the 140 points (<20%) of your total SQ score depends on imaging. They find the sound stage to be more important then imaging (this is using a street rulebook btw). Ther is more then just staging to produce a realistic sounding car.
All I'm saying is that you shouldn't be afraid to experiment, what looks good doesn't always sound good, and plastic is no place to mount speakers.

I agree with you but this happened a few years before the Back to Basics rules...when image and staging accounted for more than they do now....As for the issue with the Q-logics..they serve a purpose, sure they are made of plastic..are modestly priced..but they do give a great sound for the money. You can dampen the panel with clay, resin or mat type material...The problem I have is that peeps slam these things...and others see that and belive that they are crap and never even look that way. I'm thinking of the person who wants decent sound and is happy that he got a set on E-bay for under $100 and is gonna use his pals old whatever type of component set to hook his car up the best way he can on his budget...and maybe he will see this and think he is on the wrong path. Just my 0.02 but not every one can spend $600 and up on a set of sealed back custom fiberbglass kicks...that image and create an acurate soundstage of 8th row center.

While I do see where you are coming from, but my whole point of my original post was to keep people from simply looking at a setup and knocking it - saying it has horrible imaging when it may or may not.

in this pic, it looks like the tweeter is aimed at the shifter, possibly even lower. the tweets would prolly be better off in the stock location.
i had the qforms briefly (stolen) but i used dynamat, clay, and stuffing behind the enclosure. i used a 3way mb quart set, with the 6 in the door, 4 and tweet in the qform. i was able to angle the tweeter pretty close to perfect with stock hardware. it was a really good setup.
unfortunately with the qform and with this setup, you have to take off your dead pedal.
part of me is glad they got stolen - now that the car is manual. miss those mb's tho.
if you cold get your dead pedal back on, then this wouldn't be that bad. but, as has already been stated, the point is to put them down there for imaging reasons, which this sort of nullifies. props for creativity.
