lets get this straight 88-91 SI wiring harness

lets get this straight 88-91 SI wiring harness
allright an 88 SI wiring harness will only fit an 88 and an 89 will only fit an 89 si and the 90-91 will fit both 90-91 so that means if my friend has a 91 dx he either needs an 90-91 si for his zc swap and he cant use an 89 right??? it wont plug in to his engine bay cause i had the same problem with the resister bot and injectors ?

only difference I've seen has been where the resistor box plugs in, and you can pull the pins out of the plug and change the plugs. anyone else?
