What K24 is better?
Yep the K24A2 is the only K24 that has Vtec on both cams ie the true Vtec we all want and love. All other K24 motors only have Vtec on the intake cam and it is more akin to Vtec-E, only operating 1 intake valve in lower RPMs. Not saying that the other K24 motors are not good performers though.
personally i say just go with the tsx motor. if you get your car tuned right away u will be more than happy with the power of a stock k24a2. especially in a light *** eg hatch.

they all have a version of vtec.
true vtec like we all know with 3 lobes per cam on intake and exhaust with a fixed crossover point:
- k20a
- k20a2
- k20z1
- k20z3
- k24a2
all the rest have a version of vtec-e where below a certain rpm only two valves per cylinder open fully on the intake side. it's meant for fuel economy.

^ well, that is, until the new K24Z3 came out (engine in 2009+ TSX and 2012+ Civic Si), thats neither VTEC-E/fuel economy based.
k24Z3 makes the 200hp mark and runs a single lobe'd exhaust cam, but retain the 3 lobe intake cam.
Seems honda figured out 3 lobes on exhaust side isn't needed anymore to produce 200hp, tho the k24z3 is a bit of a unique engine (head mainly).
In regards to the OP, were you asking which K24 is best for say a stock build? or a primo high power k24 rebuild?
If stock build, yeah like all have said, the TSX (04-08) K24A2 is the best choice with minor mods that can/should be made to it (type-s oil pump).

the mating surface needs to be ground down a little to fit the k24a2 and k24a4 girdle. it's a direct bolt on for k24a1. there's also an oil jet that needs to be plugged.
truth be told. and also the scoop on the JDM FD2-R pump hangs a bit lower than a type-S pump's scoop that's partly due to the slight differences in oil pan design in regards to the Z3 vs. A2 pans. (z3 and FD2-R pans are the same).
But for a build, it'll be more trouble tuning because people aren't fooling with it too much yet.
Easiest solution is still K24A2. :-)
K24a1 direct bolt-on... from there you go either route but i would say buy which ever k is cheaper because the money you save you can put into the engine and probably produce better numbers
