About to Buy Accord w/Blown Gaskets...
So Im on CL and I come across a 99 Accord V6 that has been overheated. The paint is not great, its fading on the hood and roof as I could see from the pic. I called the guy and he says the interior is pretty good, 8/10. He is asking $1300 but I think he will go lower.
I would like to know what u guys think about buying this car... Is it worth getting the heads fixed (Im gonna do the work myself) or just is a new engine a better idea? Im not new to engines but im new to painting so its a concern for me.
I would just like to know what would b a fair price or if its even worth it, considering Im gonna do all the work myself.
Thanks in advance...

Ive done heads on a 2000 Impala and it was a PITA to get to the bolts on the head closest to the firewall, but other than that it was simple. The paint is what worries me and I have my doubts about the trans. The guy did say it turns on and Im supposed to see it on Monday. I hope it drives.

It's true. If you plan on buying this car without being able to at least test drive it and already have doubts about the transmission, just be ready to replace it. Not saying it will give out for sure, but 6th gen v6 Accords really are known for their transmission failures.
After saying that, considering the price, possible trans replacement, and engine work (assuming it's just the bad head gaskets and nothing more), plus you doing the work yourself, it might still be worth buying the car. All up to you

I'm doing a 2002 accord v6 right now. I bought the car for $1000. I bought a JDM engine with tranny, ECU, and axles for 700 shipped. I figure with the fluids and some misc stuff I will have around $2000 total into it. The tranny on some of these can be an issue, but the one on it now is working great. I think you should buy a whole new (used) engine. After over heating that engine could be damaged pretty badly. Then you could run into all kinds of other issues.
