Default Trying to located the right main and rod bearings i need

I got one of the main caps off already and the bottom halve of the bearing is a brownish color -can i assume that the rest of the main and rod bearings are also brown.

I am trying to make sure i order the right ones as replacements

Thanks ahead of time

you shouldn't assume the same. don't take bearing clearances lightly.

you need to plastigage a new set.

get a set acl's and plastigage them. even if you can't use them you can still sell them to somebody else who can.

the color is located ont eh side of the bearing, the browning color at the bottom is heat marks not the bearing sizing color.

actaully it is the side of the bearing that has the brownish color --- does this mean i can go ahead and order and brown set.

Are they all brown or did you only look at one bearing. Actually it is possibly that every bearing could be a different color. Plus you need to be careful by just looking at the color bands.......oil and time have there way of discoloring those color bands. I'd select my bearings by reading the jounal and bore letters/numbers and then plastigauging them to make sure.

**edit** plus your rod bearings are going to be different all their own also.
A set of standard size ACL bearings (rod and main) will most likely work for you. Just make sure to plastigauge them also.

Rocket or Earl can both set you up with ACL bearings for a good price.
