Default smoke from catch can - probably something bad

i was getting some smoke coming into the engine bay from my catch can for a while. got to the point that when i would hit full boost, i would get oil spray on my fire wall and underside of hood. have an Endyn catch can and had it plumbed the way they had it shown. saw the fitting for the pcv from B&R and bought that. went from this:

to this:

was barely any smoke after the dedicated drain line was installed...until today. leaving my neighborhood and got on it going up the street. nothing too excessive. had some smoke come into the cabin and it didn't stop, just got worse. pulled over and saw this:

thought maybe it filled up and drain was clogged. took catch can out, inspected it, and was empty and fine. so cleaned it up and put it back in. started the car and now i have this:

i'm guessing that this isn't good.

Endyn setups will "smoke" a little bit, but not that much. Is that new B&R fitting hooked up to the drain on the bottom of the can? It looks like you have the Home Depot hose hooked up to the top, and the AN fitting on the bottom. I'd go back to 2 lines and T into one of them for the drain. That dedicated drain line will keep forcing oil up from the bottom. It's not helping you.

Depending on temperature and humidity/dew point they will smoke, normally it's just water vapor evaporating out of the oil once the oil gets up to temp.

If you are so concerned about this, do some actual testing of your own. Do a compression test, leak down test, and vacuum analysis.

That's what I'm going to do, but was no time to do it as it was late and I'm working right now. Was going to drive it today, but exhaust didn't sound right and wife said the car sounded "funny." probably get a compression and leak down test done today if I can get my buddy to come by and do it.

As far as it streaming /smoking when the car warms up, proceeded to do it on initial startup this morning.

Fingers crossed for you, Blu... that it's not anything major.

Wow that is a lot of oil and crank case gases coming out of that filter. My bet is that you are getting a lot of blow by. Do a compression and leak down test. May be time to build that motor. Is your bottom end stock and much power are you making?
I made a cheap vent can and copied the Endyn setup but I was getting oil mist on my hood and firewall as well, not nearly as much as you though. My fix was to get a better vent can that is baffled but the Endyn is baffled already.

I hope it isn't anything major

Motor is stock minus arp headstuds. The power I'm making is in my sig with a small turbo. Been running problem free since March of last year until yesterday, although I've had minor smoke from my rings a few months after going turbo.

That second vid is pretty normal, as that is oil /water vapor coming from that can, and is like that at idle. That dissipates when you get the car under load, but even a small breather on the valvecover will help with that as well.

clean the filter out. it can get soaked in oil over time and when the gasses escape through it oil is pushed/bubbled out because the filter element is saturated. i just cleaned mine out this morning

Those endyne kits suck ***. i had one on my old hatch and it would literally overflow every pass I made. Got rid of it with the quickness. the can is to small and the fittings off the back of the block allow to much oil to go up into the can reguardless of what size can.

I'd get rid of that stupid -10an return line. I looks to me you have your block overkill vented. When you get the Car under high load w/boost going up a hill. Your oil pressure is going to rise and it's going to take the path of least resistence. Which would probably be straight up that stupid *** -10an return.
And, it also looked like you had a hose coming from you charge pipe to the can? My Mobile hotspot is aweful were i'm at but, thats what it looked like to me. That motor sounded really healthy though

Unfortunately the fitting size was - 10, so I transitioned to a smaller fitting for the catch can. Still less than ideal.

Ran a compression test and the results weren't good:

200
180
200
60

Taking everything apart to see the extent of the damage.

oem rebuild, or maybe go back all motor using that high compression B20 block Mr. Dookie has lol. My planned track days are Oct at VIR and November at CMP, so i have plenty of time to make up my mind and get things done....in theory anyway

You can pick a set of Nippon pistons up for not much. They seem to be a stronger piston than OEM. Have a look into them...

Sorry to hear the compression results but I am not surprised with that amount of smoke and oil from the can.

depending on how the cylinder walls look, I may go with them
