I just installed my brand new gtx2863r and what's different from my previous T3/T4 turbo is the whistling sound the turbo makes.

is it normal ?

 

Did you happen to drive by attractive women? A wolf whistling turbo would pull a premium one week before Race Wars.

This is a real port-shroud anti-surge housing.

The map-width enhancement groove of the housing is what's causing your whistling.

Anti surge turbos whistle/make a high pitched sound above certain pressure ratios. It's perfectly normal

They really dont start to sing until 20+ psi

I drove a big diesel box truck with an s400g with a ported shroud that ran 40-45psi... sounded so sexy

 

I understand the difference, I was just merely showing a couple examples. It is easily searched that the drilled shroud isn't in the same ball park... anyways, I only use Garrett's to begin with. Starting to get the bitter bug of old age are we? Haha!
