About 6 months ago I imported a 1996 Integra Type R from Japan. In Canada if the car is 15 years or older you can import it. It took almost 8 months to find one I wanted. This one was from southern Japan and had no modifications, which is what I wanted.
These are the only pictures I got to see when buying the car. You really have to depend on the auction sheet when making a purchase.

After getting it transported up to the Yokohama port, my exporter took some pics for me as it was waiting to get on the boat.

For a "C" grade interior, it is in really great shape. Some auctions are harder on their grading than others. This car could have been a 4 with a "B" interior at another auction.

Grats on the nice ride man. I did the same process when I bought mine. She shipped from Kawasaki and came in at the Delta/New Westminster car port.
This is me picking up my Integra at the port. The car started up with-out needing to be jumped. The lady was very surprised it started with out jumper cables, I said its because it's a Honda.

The first time sitting in my car. Next time I will bring some rubbing alcohol to take the paint off the windshield.

Barely made it to the gas station. I think there was 1/8 gallon of fuel left.

I think its a 50L tank, I was running on fumes. Literally.

In Vancouver, BC Canada we got 94 Octane. Which is nice becasue I think in Japan this engine calls for 100 Ron in Japan, which is 95 octane? Can anyone confirm this.

Interior shot at the gas station

Not a bad way to get down to the port. We got pulled over for no front plate, good thing it was just a warning.

So I needed to do few things to get it to pass my Provincial Inspection. With-out that I cannot insure / license the car.
I needed DRL's, a 3 brake light, DOT approved tires, and any other mechanical issues. I had leaky shocks, which I replaced.
For the DRL's I tapped into a fuse that gave me 12V when the car started and jumped my fog lights.

For the third brake light I used a G3 integra 3rd brake light and bolted it into the rear cover.

I extended the OEM harness a bit to make it easy to plug in.

The car came pre-wired for a 3rd brake light. Plug and play with the USDM 3rd brake light plug.

The Japanese plate holes are slightly wider than the Canadian ones. Here is how I modded my plates

I bought some used 98 USDM ITR springs and shocks to pass inspection. Here are the differences between the 96 Spec JDM.

cool stuff. Regarding your octane question, you'll do fine with 91 around the Lower Mainland although there's nothing wrong with 94. I prefer the Chevron 94 as well.

i wish i had a JDM ITR...
