California Emissions; '92 Civic LX, 1.6L, 5 speed manual, 240K miles
Hello, I am from Ohio and have a '92 Civic LX, 1.6L, 5 speed manual, 240K miles
I moved to CA some months ago; I just took my car for a smog check, and it passed everything except low speed (15mpH) hydrocarbon test.
Here are the relevant fixes I've made to the car recently...
-Spark Plugs (9 months old)
-Fuel Filter (9 months old)
-Oxygen Sensor (2 months old)
-New B-Pipe (1 week old)
Based on this would you guys think that getting a new catalytic converter would do the trick? If not, what can you guys recommend so that I can pass the CA smog test? Are all cat's created equal, or will one brand significantly reduce my emissions score.
Also I notice when looking online for catalytic converters, alot of them say "not for use in CA" etc.... Is there something about my car that makes it not possible to (legally) to put on a new catalytic converter?
Any advice appreciated
Thanks

Does anyone know what type of catalytic converter I should attempt to get? What;s the difference between universal and direct fit and which one should I get for my car?
1 Retard timing 1-2 degrees from factory spec.
2 Refrain from throwing more money at it (just lookin out)
3 Go pass the inspection

Nothing at this point indicates the cat is bad. Any CEL codes?
Post the actual emissions sheet. There's information there that may help pinpoint the problem.
How old are the plug wires, distributor cap, and rotor?
Have you checked the ignition timing with a timing gun.

Thanks for the help; Plugs/wires, cap and rotor all about 8-9 months old.... Heres my results, if there trouble reading it I can get some higher res pictures

The cat is probably fine as you never failed NOx and everything passes at 25 mph.
Get a free rental of a timing gun at AutoZone and set the ignition timing to spec. You'll find a diagram for the procedure in the FAQs sticky. Follow the instructions to the tee.
